The Kedusha Project is a collective of hide workers and scribes centered in Oklahoma. We are on a mission to open the gates of ritual to the historical Jewish ‘other’ by aligning the sacred crafts of tefillin and parchment with the mitzvot of gender liberation, animal dignity, and economic equity.

Our Values

Gender Liberation

Women, converts, people with disabilities, and those in the LGBTQ+ communities have historically been left out of kedusha making. As an egalitarian collective we are commited to uplifting these historic ‘others’.

Animal Dignity

All of the hides used by The Kedusha Project come from animals that died in accidents. As a collective it is important for us to giving our gratitude to the life force which forms the foundation of the scribe's work.

Economic Equity

We believe all Jewish people should have access to sacred items and the means and agency to fulfill mitzvot. Our aim is to make high quality kedusha that also remains affordable for our community.

The Kedusha Roadshow

The Kedusha Roadshow will provide an immersive experience for Jewish communities in the creative sanctity of the scribal arts. Community members will learn the laws and traditions of writing Torah scrolls, mezuzot, and related objects, interact with artifacts from the various stages of production, spin sinew thread, and produce scribal ink for Torah repair. Our scribes will explore the intersections of these ancient crafts with contemporary values. Community members will have an opportunity to purchase mezuzot and tefillin produced from roadkill in an egalitarian framework.

The team will work with each community to tailor the curriculum with extra classes, direct member involvement in repair of the community’s Torah scrolls, etc.
